  • How to Apply?

Please be advised that the British Embassy in Kiev will only be able to accept visa application forms that have been completed online (www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk). Applications not completed on line will not be accepted at the Visa Application Centre. This change brings the application process in Ukraine into line with those used in other British visa issuing posts world-wide.

All applicants will be required to have a finger scan as part of the application process. Those exempt from a fingerprint scan include:-

    - Children under 5 years of age
    - Applicants for Channel Islands and Isle of Man
    - Applicants for Commonwealth countries and Overseas Territories
    - Applicants for Right of Abode
    - Applicants who are exempt from immigration control ( Chapter 5 of Entry Clearance Guidance www.ukvisas.gov.uk )

The finger scan will take place at the Visa Application Centre during your appointment.

If you are applying under Tier One General of the Points Based System (Highly Skilled Migrants) full details, including Administrative Review, are available on the UK Border Agency website.

Please click on the links below for information on the below categories:

    INF 21 PBS General Migrant

Points Based System (PBS) is a new system for managing migration for those wishing to enter the UK for work or study. Please visit www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk for more information and the Self-Assessment Calculator.

You can submit applications for all categories of Tier 1 starting 30 June 2008

    Tier 1 Categories:

  • Tier 1 (General) Migrant
  • Tier 1 (Investor)
  • Tier 1 (Entrepreneur)
  • Tier 1 (Post-Study Work)

The recent High Court ruling in the UK resulting from the Highly Skilled Forum Judicial Review affects certain people who formerly had leave in the UK under the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP). You may be covered by this ruling if you joined HSMP under the arrangements which were in place until the scheme was suspended on 7 November 2006 and you either:

    a) applied for and were refused further leave to remain under the new extension rules which came into force on 5 December 2006, and subsequently left the UK, or
    b) left the UK after 7 November 2006 without ever applying for further leave to remain under the new rules.

A policy document which explains in detail who is affected by the ruling is available on the UK Border Agency website. Forms, guidance and information on supporting documents for those overseas who think they are affected by the ruling and who wish to apply for entry clearance to return to the UK as a highly skilled migrant are being prepared and will be available on the UK Border Agency Visa Services website. Applications will need to be made via our VAC.
  • Application process consists of two steps:-

Step 1 - Complete an application form

Go to www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk and fill in a visa on-line application form. A separate form must be completed for each applicant. After you have completed the form you will get a reference number for your application like GWF000000000.

Print out your application form and sign it.

Attach one recent colour passport-sized photograph. It should be:-

    - 35 x 45 mm taken against a solid light background
    - Printed on normal photographic paper
    - Full face without sunglasses, hat or other head covering unless you wear this for cultural or religious reasons

Please note that we may not accept photographs that do not meet these specifications.

We will email you a list of supporting documents that you should provide with your application after you have submitted the on-line form.
  • Step 2 - Book an appointment

Having completed the on-line application form, you will be prompted to book an appointment to submit your application. You can either book the appointment at this stage or log-in at a later date to retrieve your application. You can also print the application form at any time by logging on to the same site.

You must book an Enrolment - Settlement appointment if you are applying for a visa as:-

    - a fiancé(e)
    - proposed civil partner
    - spouse
    - civil partner
    - unmarried and same-sex partner
    - dependant child/dependant relative
    - EEA permit to join a spouse or a close relative on a permanent basis

You must book an Enrolment-Non-Settlement appointment if you are applying for any other visa type, for example Visitor, Business, Work Permit, etc including and EEA permit if it is your intention to simply visit your relative in the UK.

    - You can only book one appointment and you must first complete and print the on-line visa application form.
    - In order to submit the application you need to come to the Visa Application Centre in person for the collection of your biometric data. Applications brought by representatives will not be considered. More information on Biometrics and how they are taken please go to the UKvisas website.
  • Information for Groups

With all applicants being required to make their applications personally, it will no longer be possible for representatives to make group applications on their behalf.

Representatives can book individual appointments or notify the VAC directly by email if they wish to request an appointment slot for their entire group to submit the applications to the VAC. An email should be sent to groups@ukvac-ua.com at least 4 weeks before travel. After that a Group Details Log will be forwarded to the group leader to fill it out and sent back to the above e-mail address.

You will then receive an email with the appointment date/time and information relating to the online procedure.

    • Please note that a group should not contain anyone who has previously been refused a UK visa. In case an applicant was previously refused, he/she has to apply as an individual.
    • You should read this carefully, as this is a slightly different procedure than that for individuals.
    Attention: Children Group Leader
In the application form of every child applying to go to the UK for short term study or sightseeing purpose, residence address of a child in Ukraine and the address in the UK must be stated fully and properly.

  • Submit documents

Arrive at the UK Visa Application Centre in Kiev on the date and time you have scheduled (step 2). Please arrange to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your appointed time. You will then be directed to the Application Centre waiting room. Callers who are too early will be asked by Security Personnel to return at the appointed time.

    Please submit the following:-

    - Your passport or travel document
Note:- the passport/travel document should be in good condition. It is advisable to obtain a new passport when your current passport expires rather than have the validity of the old document extended.
    - Printed online application form with one photograph attached
    - The visa fee (hryvnas in cash)
    - Any supporting documents relevant to your application. You should bring all supporting documents with the application, as a decision on your application may be made on the basis of the documents submitted by you without the requirement of a personal interview with the Embassy. You should pay close attention to the supporting documents requested at the time of application

A photocopier is available at the visa application centre for which a fee is charged. However applicants are advised that any copying is done prior to attending the centre.

Remember: you must complete an on-line application form before making an appointment. Please note that we will not be able to accept your application if you do not have an appointment.

UKvisas produces a series of Information Leaflets for the different types of visas available. These can be found on the UKvisas website.
  • Who needs to submit the application?

It is necessary for the applicant to visit the Application Centre in person. A relative, friend or representative can not submit the application.

  • How long will it take for your application to be processed?

The expected processing time may vary by visa category. You will be informed at the time of acceptance of your application. In the majority of straightforward applications you should receive a decision within 3 days. This may be extended if further enquiries are necessary. Please allow for extended processing timelines during peak seasons

We recommend that you apply at least eight weeks before your intended date of travel. It is in your interest not to purchase travel services until your visa has been issued.

Processed applications can be collected from the Application Centre - in person or through a representative who should have the required authority letter from the applicant. You can opt for the documents to be returned by courier for an additional nominal courier charge if you wish.
